matching numbers?

#1

Post by es225 » Mon May 17, 2010 12:21 pm

Is there a way to find out whether the frame (headstock) number Bxxxx and engine number 63FLxxxx (plus belly numbers 163xxxx) match for my 1963 panhead? In other words whether the frame and engine combination is the same as when the bike left the factory?
Thanks! JW

JW!

Law Enforcement authorities can retrieve similar information from the MOCO, such as correlating production numbers with VINs, but I have no idea if they will provide such a courtesy for a private individual.

JW, in 2006 a member of this forum contacted H-D Customer Service about his 1963 Panhead and later received a letter confirming the originality of the bike. I have read the letter.

You may also find additional identifying characters stamped on the left side of the lower triple clamp and on the forward face of the transmission case. The additional ID should be in a similar format to the characters on your frame (headstock) but probably won’t match each other exactly and that is apparently normal. Contact H-D and provide all your details and they may be able to assist you. Eric
