aluminium pushrod covers

Post by bangkok bob » Tue Aug 13, 2013 1:25 pm

Hi folks.
Just discovered that I have 2 sets of aluminium pushrod covers and 2 sets of steel covers on my 63 pan
Can any one let me know what material was used as standard?

I have done a search and used the KB to no avail.
One of the bottom flanges on an alloy one required attention with a socket to reset but is good to use now.
All sets use steel top plates to lock them up.

All information appreciated.

I believe the aluminum covers were used on 60-62 Pans and Sportsters.

BangcokBob!---Steel is what I have run into on most machines!--(Factory were steel)--I have seen the ALUM. ones you speak of!---You can use them as long as there aren't any bad blemishes where they seal against the corks!--Use new springs if this has been sitting as a basket-case for some time!/& use CORKS OLNY!---I never had a problem with LEAKING from the ALUM. ones that I did install prior!---Stay--Safe----RICHIE 8)

Thanks guys for answers.

I think that 2 sets may have been replaced with steel due to rough handling. I'll run them as I have cleaned up the edge and look good to go.
I have used new cork washers (fitted dry) and fit is good and firm.

So maybe early 63 Duo had these standard fitting?

I am in need of one spring cap 17945-36B if you have an extra one, or know of one.
