Crank case markings

#1

Post by txpan49 »

I am looking at a 49 Panhead and have a question about the cases. The are casted with the name "Cal Products Bonneville Case". There is a HD Vin stamped on the case. Did HD use a company named Cal Products? I am a newbie at Pans.

Thanks

NOPE- Not- EVER-
they are early aftermarket. They may have "state assigned" Vin's to them. which IMO is worth less than the real cases & Good Vin's
Or someone did a self-stamp job to them..= less value

There is a picture of a set in the Picture Gallery here. Same thing..

Thanks Billy. I was told that the left case was replaced and the right half is HD. I was told that that was normal to replace busted left halfs. Does that sound like a story? There is a clean Illinois State title on it.

That is an old story, well I replaced the left case, it was busted. By who the cops ?
case replacement does occur, but if HD did it they would certainly have used a HD L. case

Well, the price certainly should reflect the aftermarket
left case. & you may not wanna take it out of that state.
I don't buy it!!
but who knows..
