Speedo cable making noise

#1

Post by 1955fle » Fri Jun 01, 2018 8:26 pm

The speedo cable on my '55 FL is making some noise. I am guessing it needs to be lubed. What do you guys use to lub your cables? I have used many different types from lithium grease to graphite. All eventually make noise again. What are your thoughts?
Thanks
Carl

I found a small tube of graphite grease at ACE .....remove the drive wire outa the cable a lube it up ....very messy job but no chatter .

I've had good luck with grease for bicycle components from pedal bike shops. Waterproof, light consistency, and doesn't seem to dry out as quickly as lithium.

This is what I used. Had some left over from my younger days of mountain bike riding. First time using this type of grease, hope it will work.

Took the bike out on Saturday. Speedo was working just as it should. No noise, nice and smooth. Amazing what a little maintenance will do.
