Cal Products Timken Case with 49 Right Case Flywheels

#1

Post by michigander52 » Sat Jun 09, 2018 3:25 am

I need flywheels for my Frankenstein project. The left case is a Cal Products Timken style and the right case is a 1949. I believe I should use a 1955 and later left flywheel/sprocket shaft? For the right flywheel can I use any 1958 and earlier? As long as I use the appropriate pinion shaft and associated gear case parts?

You need '56 up to '72 flywheels, '55 is a one year only shaft and left wheel and not worth messing with. The taper on the right flywheel remains the same from the '40s up so a matched set is your best bet. A '55-'57 right shaft will allow you to use the caged bearing common to Sportsters as well as Big Twins. Use the '54 up pinion bushing in the cam cover to match the pinion shaft and the matching case race. Then you can also use the quieter and easy to find pinion and oil pump drive gears. Use a '56-'64 left shaft.

Thanks Robbie! So I'll be looking for a set of '56 up to '72 flywheels, '55-'57 right shaft along with a '56-'64 left shaft? Then a standard rod set will work in the flywheels?
Thanks again
Steve

Yes Steve, standard '41 up rod, bearing, crankpin set fits those wheels.
