6 volt battery replacement

#1

Post by Scrap » Wed Jul 11, 2018 4:25 pm

RE: 57 FL
The HD Branded 6 volt H2 battery that I bought from the dealer 5 years ago failed this week due to a dead cell. Kept it on a "battery tender" year round in an unheated garage. Can't complain, 5 years is pretty good. I plan to get another one from the dealer. I don't want to mess with putting a couple of gell cells together etc. Has anyone had any problems with recent HD batteries or recommendations for one from other suppliers? I see sealed batteries that appear to be the same size as the H2, anyone used one?
Thanks,
Sam

My HD 6V battery is about 3 years olds, and still going strong.

I use the HD ones as well and about 5 years is what I get out of them. I also keep them on tenders and periodically pull them to reup the fluid level. I keep 6 or so on the self plus one in my trailer as spares and a jug of acid in case I have one go bad on a road run. That is all I have ever run in 45 plus years of dealing with them. We used to be able to get them rebuilt for about $12 but then came the EPA. No more. Also still run points and mechanical relay with no issues. 5 knucks, 4 pans and a couple of flatties running this. Good Luck!

Harley Davidson does not make batteries. Nor does it make oil. As many people tend to believe.

Nor do they make their battery tenders. It’s a Deltran Battery tender with the HD sticker slapped on it. I guess the one only difference would be the price… Harley is just about double of what you can get it anywhere else

Hmmm, I didn't think anyone here claimed that the HD battery was manufactured by HD.

You guys running H-D batterys you dont have problems with where the vent is? the last on I tried it was at the same height as the oil tank, so the hose was kinked when installed, stock rigid frame and tank? Thanks

Yeah, same problem here. There needs to be a spacer at the bottom of the battery hole. I put in a piece of quarter-inch plywood. Lousy design.
