I listened to advise of the group and went for it

I wanted this bike for 12 years while it was on display at my job. I have to figure out how to pay for it but I am sure I can manage. From what I can see there is a lot of correct parts on this bike, according to the 2nd owner the dash is original paint.

Thanks, I don't plan on doing anything to it just ride. I have never bought a bike that is ready to go so this is new to me.

Happy for you, Pete. Looks like a fun ride to work bike! Like Robbie said, Never stress about the money, just get it paid off. Doing without cigs., booze, cable TV, etc., frees up alot of $ for the bill. Doc

The bike finally made it here today. It got delayed a few times coming from the outer islands due to hurricane preparations but it just arrived a few hours ago. I took it downstairs to the shop, put oil in it, checked the tanks to make sure they are not rusty, set the points and after kicking on it for 5 to 10 minutes it started up. This is amazing. I definitely got lucky that it started. I took it for about a 6 mile ride to get used to the shifter and I have to say it is a lot easier then I thought it would be. This is unreal, I can't believe I own this thing.

Pete, tell us a little about the bike. It appears to be a U model of some kind, circa 1939 to about 1946 or so.

1947UL it was on display at the dealership I work at. A few weeks ago it ended up going to a new home on the outer island. Once I found out who had it I contacted them and made an offer. Waited a few weeks for it to get here but now it is here and I rode it home yesterday. Unfortunately now I am getting ready for the hurricane so it is just sitting in the garage till the storm passes along with the other bikes.

I managed to locate the 2nd owner of the bike that received it as payment for a roofing job back in 1982 from the daughter of the original owner. He still has the original title framed and hanging on his wall. I am going to see him on Monday or Tuesday to talk about the bike and take a look at all the photos he has of the bike for back in the day.

From what he told me a large part of the bike is untouched and mostly hem parts. there are some incorrect nuts and bolts here and there and the saddle bags are reproduction made by someone in San Diego back in the 80s. According to the guy the dash is OP, while the tins were painted back in the 80s when the rest of the bike got a facelift. Hopefully he has pics of it when he first got it so I can keep for my records.

If some of you guys can chime in on what appears to be incorrect please let me know so that I can slowly change those items out.

After riding this bike home yesterday I am stating to think that my Panhead is timed incorrectly or something is wrong because this bike pulls significantly harder. Once the storm passes I will take a closer look at the pan and see what I Amy have done wrong.

So I meat up with the guy that owned this bike back in the early 80s, when he got it as payment for a roofing job from the daughter of the original owner. He has an amazing garage. He took down some walls and extended his 2 car garage into his living room, den and another small room and created a massive garage in his modest home. I spent some time talking to him and looking at all the amazing cars and stuff he has in the shop. I took some photos of pics he showed me of the UL when he got it. He has the original California License plate for it along with the original CA title paperwork and shipping documents when it arrived in Hawaii. Here are some pics of the pics I took, not the best quality but it's cool to hear the history of the bike. The last 2 pics are today before I went to work and during my lunch break.
