I have been totally puzzeled by all the spark plug trouble people seem to have one this forum for a long time . I have run Champion L92YC plugs with .030 gap in my '48 Pan for many years with zero problems. This is a 1/2" reach extended nose plug that just fits the head better than a 3/8. With a combination of start/stop and highway rideing the porcalins stay medium gray. I have had the equivalant in other brands that performed the same - but I get Champions because easy to find and they look good. In fact, the only reason I get new ones in the spring is because they'er not shiny anymore. I suspect many problems described here on the forum are carb tuneing problems rather than plug problems.
