"Short frame" distance from the floor

#1

Post by DaCs » Tue Mar 05, 2019 9:35 am

Am I in error? continuing the project of the panhead I feel that the distance from the floor to the frame (FX) is very short, about 10-12 cms. I am using a springer DNA front end 24" (+2) , Im doing something wrong? still need to put the rear shocks (13.5") but looking at the horizontal line from the floor to the frame I do not think it will vary much.

Thanks

Harley changed to hydraulic forks in 1949 on the panhead.
The 49 pan (and later bikes) have more ground clearance then knuckleheads.
If your fork is the same length as a knucklehead springer then you will have the same ground clearance as a knucklehead.

Thanks for response, I do not have the factory length for a FX but I thought there would be no problem because the suspension I am using is +2, maybe I need one with more length? maybe +4?

A stock Hydra-Glide fork is approximately 2" longer than a stock Springer, an FX fork is approximately 4" over a stock Springer. With 2" over you should be at the same height as a stock Duo-Glide sits. 10-12 cm is about stock, around 4 inches depending on wheel and tire sizes.
