I think they are made the same ....
That Goodson Aluminum Cap is a fat Mo/Fo and will require a world of grind time ...

I installed the black cap with all screws in place, then lowered the Mag drive all the way down as far as it would go into the motor ... (Mounting bolt and spacer left out)
Mag didn't just fall on, it was a bit of a chore pushing fairly hard to get it under the head fin... But found the sweet spot and got it on the drive unit ...
(After using a few words that would make a Preacher blush)

Dave even said on some motors the fins will need to be trimmed ....
(He's not a fan of the Goodson Cap cause of the huge dimensions that causes more problems with fitment)

It' on, it's timed and all is locked down for the long run ....

If the owner wants to install the Aluminum Mag cap... It will be his job to make happen ....

I'm thinking it would be easy to spend a few hours with grinding, fitting and polishing to get it on...
He can fart with it, I got it on without any grinding fins or on the Mag ...

That's my story and I'm sticking to it .. !!

Well ....

The 51 is about done ...

The last issue I'm going to contend with is the intake fit ...
There is a bit of a lip that wouldn't be a problem (With using the FnA's clamps) that's sticking out into the flow of the intake charge that I'm going to correct ....

It's as if the intake is for a stroker and is a bit too wide for this application ...
Although this motor is a stroker it's a sleeper stroker with having stock height cylinders, intake was ordered from S&S for the 5.530" tall jugs (Which is stock) ..

This small fitment issue could be the fault of the re-pop heads not machined to the standards of Oem .. ??

I have in stock another S&S intake that's the same number (Size) as the new one that was ordered, tried fitting it, same gig with having the same lip sticking out ...
Monday I'll call V-Twin to see if I'm the only one that ran up on this fitment problem using their heads .. ??
Also a call will be made to S&S to see if a shorter than stock is available ...

If not I see two things that can be done ...

1) Is to trim a little off the intake O-Ring lips in turn making the intake shorter (The O-Ring lips are not needed since the FnA's clamps are in use)

2) Leave it as it is and not worry about it having a bit of a bump in the intake tract, the FnA seals will not have a problem with having a 100% seal on the heads and intake.... The design of them makes em "Forgiving" ...
It's not much of a lip, but will be a bit of a wall for the intake charge to bump into ...

Personally I like number 2 .... :o
(Be less work on my end)

Got the intake issue worked out... Took a little off the intake O-Ring lips ...
Then I noticed something else that needed tweeting ....

At full advance the Mag looked like it would be laying right on the exhaust pipe .... Picture below is after I did a mod .... Thinking it will have pipe room now ...

Image

What I did was to thin down the spacer in turn allowing full advance to happen further away from the pipe... Took .030" off ....

Image

Now it's done and ready for the owner ... :D

... Thought so ...

This is the Oem head off the 51, fins were hacked on for loading the Mag ... And that was with running the black cap too ...

Didn't need any hacking to load the Mag with using the V-Twin re-pop heads ..
But was a bit of a effort ..

That's not all that's big in this motor .... :o

Shaft has the L81-86 taper in the flywheel ....
(Timken bearing is the 69-up)

Nets a fairly Heavy-Duty crank ..

Pretty cool. I worry about so-called "artificial intelligence," though... Especially when it talks... Nevertheless, really cool effect!
