Kickstand
I bought an aftermarket kickstand for my Panhead. And it keeps folding up on me when I’m kickstarting and sometimes when working on her. Does anybody know of a good one to get!?!? Almost dropped her again yesterday. Does a new Harley one fit?

Re: Kickstand
Sounds like it's not assembled properly. It should have a squareish lug on top directly beneath the top nut.
How about a picture so we don't have to guess what we are dealing with here, OK?

Re: Kickstand
I use that one, ordered via eBay US...looks nice and works perfectly
But before purchasing a new one check the assembly of yours. I assume RooDog is right......

Re: Kickstand
That squarish lug installs with the slightly rounded corner toward the front of the bike, some are even marked as to which side goes Up. There is always some slop when the stand is in battery, for best results, especially with a "kick-me to start" bike it is good practice to never park facing downhill....

Re: Kickstand
Many new aftermarket kick stand kits just weren't made to hold up under kicking. The metal is soft and the back support that the peg (with the square hole) bears against just bends and is junk, and the aftermarket peg thing is usually shorter than original. The original loop plate with the stack of plates, riveted together, is the best!

Re: Kickstand
Thanks everyone, maybe I’ll go on the hunt for an original kickstand. I don’t like to have to constantly pull the bike back because it’s about to fall over when kicking or even sometimes working on her.

Re: Kickstand
Had the same problem with my new after market kickstand.
Ended up using the stop (squarish tab) from my old original worn out kickstand and it's back to normal.

Re: Kickstand
But this one is Stainless Steel, and it's clocked a little differently to position the leg out forward rather than straight out.

Re: Kickstand
Why would you want that?
Pointing straight out like stock, there is almost no leverage tending to fold the stand.
With the stand rotated further forward like that, there is more leverage tending to try to fold it even further forward, which over time may cause the tab to break or distort, and let the bike fall over.

Awander, and to all viewing this....
Exactly. Just another scam to grab the money from those who lack mechanical savvy. The image on the left is how a Jiffy Stand should be deployed. Sometimes an owner may need to do some welding and file fitting to get it all to set just right in battery. This stuff, whether new or old stock parts, should be fine tuned to function properly, don't expect it to be right right out of the box.
