I held back on stroking my '68 FL beyond 4 5/8" because of the longer everything involved, including pushrods & covers, intake manifold, stroker plates/jugs, and had I chosen the big bore, 3 5/8, jugs, all of this would have been mandatory, so I just kept it at a measly 90" with "80" jugs, and I am happy with that....

Some folks seem to think of Iron Head Sportsters as Shovelheads. They are idiots. And your earlier pics with a Shovel top side would tend to not draw the eye as the Panny tops would, hell, even Knuckle heads would be cool, but not flow as well as the Pans would especially if they were AM pieces like STD or $&$ Pans, which use later style rockers. Oh, God, the possibilities ! ! !

Not easy, things that are worth while rarely are, but doable....
It seems that suitable cams for the 1.5:1 rockers would take some sciencing out, other that that, nothing one couldn't fix with a full machine shop at hand. Dual carbs, or single, something exotic, no doubt?.... LOL.. Make it so....

A Knuckster would be tits for sure ...
Also a Panster would net a wild look ...

Not sure what the owner will tell me to build at this point of time ...

But my own opinion would be a Shovester .... Somewhat retains the looks of the Ironheads only Supersized and being Aluminum and with running the Poole jugs, the whole dang Top-End is Aluminum .... :o

But, alas ... I'm just a wrench and do what I'm told to do regardless of what my thoughts are ....

Got a message from Andy that he made it back home safe and sound ....

He wanted to plug the motor in the frame for mock up, but was dog tired from the 1,200 mile drive home ...

More photos to come..

He's got a bit of a wait for the Speed E Shifter to come in, Nickie is about 3/4 done building it, and the Baker Jock lid hasn't been ordered just yet ...
I have a little work on the lid to do in order for it to work with the Speed-E ...

Image

Once he gets the Speed-E a final fit and dial in will be done, then the critter will be taken apart for chroming ...

The fitting may require some work due to the tranny being raised up in the frame 1-1/4"...

What a shame that Mr. Tatge got his patent approved the same year Harley came out with a foot shift.

Cam choice has been made ... Leineweber L-6's will be going into the build ...

The cams in the above photo are the og bone stock cams that came from the Mo-Co back in 1974 ... Still runnable ..
