And to think this is what that cover was made for ...

Image

The Mo-Co should have used them for air filters cause they have a slick look to em..

Once upon a time Milwaukee Iron made some that looked just like Oem ..
But that's been years ago...
Anywho ... I'm giving it a shot ... 8)

Here's the "B" carb that will go into service on the 52.

Image

I'm slicking it up a bit cause my 52 is a looker and want the carb to look as good as the rest of the scoot does ..

First off, I removed the idle cable stay ... Didn't have a need for it being the Superbowl pumper lever doesn't support a return cable, just a pull cable will be in use.

Machined the carb body for main jet air bleed for using a jet ..

Image

Image

That bit of mill work will allow some tune-ability from idle jet to main jet transition..

Image

Came up with a very early Superbowl throttle shaft pump lever that they made from brass.

Image

Did a shine job on it and added the easy idle adjustment screw.

Image

Using a acc. pump from a Bendix carb kit gave me three choices of how much of a shot of fuel the pump would throw... I went will the most...Then cut down the pump rod shaft for room to work ...

At the moment I'm polishing out the carb body and the pumper float bowl ...
Most likely with the Siren Air-Cleaner hanging off the end of the carb, ya won't see very much of it ... :(

Going to miss the SU, it's been on her for over 35 years ..

Image

Bike runs super well with it, the only thing is cold start ups ...
Having only a tickler and the elbow intake don't work all that well together...

Well .....

I pulled the trigger .... Got a Siren Air Cleaner coming ... Not a W&W Cycle or WWW one, but a newer revised design that was made as a Air Cleaner from the start ....

Image

Image

The design is just about the same as a S&S Teardrop with the air dams incorporated in the mounting plate and the cover, also has a K&N filter...

Got a bit of work to do getting it to bolt up to a Super-B cause it was made for the Twin Cam Fuel Injection Scoots ...

And I also may jump on this item that is being made in panhead's neck of the woods.. (Holland is close to Germany ain't it ..??)

Glad you are going repop on that.
These was made in the late 20's and was used up till the mid 70's..
That style cover started in the early '40s and ended in '48, second version of the Sterling 38 siren cover. The first was a shorter winged cover with no logo. In '49 H-D switched to Federal sirens with a round cover, and from '58 up used a house built siren with a stamped stainless cover. The earlier sirens from the late '20s-mid '30s all used stamped tin covers.

Almost went with the W&W Cycle re-pop of the Oem until that Hi-Tech new age Siren looking air cleaner popped up on eBay ... It was used and cheap ..!!

Hope I can make it work on the Super-B ...
Kinda got the thoughts of machining out the carb mount from a S&S Super Tear Drop backing plate and machine the Twin Cam hole for pressing in and tack welding the B ..

Not really sure what I'm going to do just yet... :?:
(Gotta say I like the looks of the Hi-Tech better than OG)
