Front gas tank mount

#1

Post by WileECoyote » Thu Nov 28, 2019 9:33 pm

Hey all,

I have re-started an old project determined to get the old lady back on the road. I found that on my frame some iron rat has gnawed off the front gas tank mount tab. The bracket is there, but the tab is gone.

Can somebody please help me out with the dimensions of the tab and the slot so I can get it fixed? It looks somewhat like this.

Having the late tool box mount, but the early front motor mount, the frame may be a '52, although my motor is a '54.

Thanks a lot

Wile

Do notice that Gallopin' Gallon's lower tank mount is not the same as yours. A change was made in the mid 1950s....

Thanks a lot, yes indeed, a replacement bracket would be an option. However, this would screw up the finish of the frame, which is not easily touched up. A local repair to the tab remains hidden under the tanks. Also the repair is cheaper and retains a stock part and welders hereabouts are often reluctant to weld on structural parts of the frame. Therefore if anyone could get the dimensions I would be very grateful. Just holding a straightedge against the tank mount tab and taking a picture would do.

I do not have any dimensions, but I hope these pics will help with positioning your new tab.
BTW: The first thing I did when I got into the Harley game was to buy a welder and learn how to use it. I still have it 50+ years later.....
