Bought a fixer upper 72 sportster. Turn ignition to first position, nothing, turn to second position, headlight and taillight come on,nothing else. No ignition light, nothing. Could it be a faulty ignition switch, Battery is good. Any ideas ?

Here’s one I found years ago. ‘72 Sport? With horizontal ignition in the right side motor cover?
If there is no gasket under the points cover, the points vibrate out on the post against the cover, SHORT OUT, and no spark signal to the coil. Take the cover off beside the road where the bike died, look at points, now sparking, put cover on, bike starts and runs till they vibrate out again. You need that gasket!
