63-65 Handshift Gas Tanks

#1

Post by panz4ever »

Looking to trade (or buy) OEM 63-65 tank shift gas tanks. Have OEM 51-53 footshift tanks in very good to excellent condition. No paint on outside, only primer. Insides are really clean. If it will help I will include the emblems, screws, gas shut-off rod. One emblem has "DL AULD"  (manufacturer name) on the back; can't find it on the other.

Either reply here or send me an email hd65flh@att.net

Thanks

Update on the request. When I pulled the tanks out of storage I noticed 2 things... paint, not primer and a welded tab on on of the mounts. It has been many years since I last looked at the tanks so I was going off memory only.

So off to the guy who does my powdercoating and have the paint removed.

The entire hand shift section had been filled with bondo. Propane torch, stainless brush and some small pics cleaned the section up nicely.

Those tanks are beautiful! Since they’re hand shift will you run them or still want 63-65 style? Painted up with the emblems, in my opinion, those 51-53 tanks scream “Panhead” whatever year they’re on.

Andy I really like the emblem for this year tanks. Think they actually look more stylish than the 65 emblems.

However, if I can score a set of correct 3-1/2 gallon hand shift tanks (hopefully via trade) then I will unload these.

But in the interim I intend to have these painted black.

Sure saves me a lot of headaches for now.
