This don't look good ... :o

Image

But I have an easy cure for this problem ...

Image

Those conversion rings and a set of FnA's clamp/seals will be "In Like Flint" ...

Image

Haha .... ^^ Since I'm been buying/selling so many of their kits, the Boys at FnA made that up ....

This helps to get the bushings in ...

Image

If I had the new wrist pins I could have the bushings honed and sit the rods to the side while working on the flywheels ... All they need is the balance and thrust washers installed ...

Change one thing and ten others will need to be changed in order to make that one work ...

Here's what I got going on ...
Remember the trick fuel filter that's made by the "Grim Parts Co."

Image

They make two versions of that filter, one with a 90* fitting that screws into the bottom of the gizmo and the other is all one piece with a barb ...

Image

^^ That's the one I'm wanting to use on my Super-B carb ...
Problem is they are only made for the Super-E/G carbs...
And the fuel inlet seats are not the same being the "B" seat inlet is 0.170 taller ...

Ok, alright .... I have a plan .. ??

I ordered two of these, one with the fitting and one without ...
The one with the 90* fitting I sold and the other is going to be modified in order to work on the "B" carb ...

Image

Got a couple of ideas in my "Tom Terrific" hat on how to pull this off ...

Image

I'll post some photos when I get it done ...

Back to the 61 Pan ...

Image

Interesting valve job that these heads has got .. 😟 .. Only one cut was done, no 30* or 60* above or below the 45* .... That's a bit odd to see it done that way ... ?!?!

Lets see what we can do bout dat ...

Image

Image

A bit of cutting went down on the 30* and 60* ... Did hit the 45* for shits & giggles. Not much was cut, cause of not wanting to sink the valve anymore than it already is ...
It's already .010 over max Protrusion ..

Image

Intake is kinda out there too ... Look at where it been seating at, runs off the edge of the valve .. !!
Valve Protrusion on intake is .002" away from max spec ...

Image

Did a light cut on the 45* to true the seat and to see where the seat is located on the valve face ..

!!! ... Houston we have a problem ... !!!

Here's what's going on ....
Due to the cut below the 45* going straight into the bowl, there's no meat to move the seat back on the valve face ... Way to go Boys ...
Going to get a oversize valve in order to get a good seat on the valve face ...

Image

Back in the day when "Ed Rowe" was in business, he offered oversize valves in a few sizes, +1/16" (1.812"), +1/8" (1.875") and +5/32 (1.906")

Nowadays .... Slim Picking's .. !!

I put in a call to the owner of "KPMI" (Will) and put a bug in his ear ...
I'm hoping he will expand his line of parts to include these valve in the Black Diamond line ... ??
Said he will call me back after thinking about it .... :?:

Some parts for the "B" carb came in ..
Had the bowl vent fitting chromed and got the filter for it from Cotheridge Worcester UK ...
It's actually a fuel filter for a weed eater ...
But being as small as it is, fits my needs to a "T" ... :D

Image

Just one more thing to do on it and done it is ...
(That be the round brass fuel filter/needle seat that I'm hoping I can make work on the "B") If not .... Well it's back to plan A ..

Got a bit more done on the 61 ...

Still waiting for the wrist pins ...
But did get this bit of work done...

Image

.025" ... Got the crank-pin nuts fairly tight ... The new flywheel washers are in but not staked just yet ... This was only a test to see where the female rod side-play was at ... I do have thicker flywheel washers to close up that spec if needed ... But at .025" and with going to 200 ft-lbs on the nuts, it should close to around .015" ..

Image

Now that it's known what the end-play is, time was at hand to lock down the washer in the wheel ..

Keep it coming! Love the details and all the pics with explanations.

Some of your posts, I can't see the pix. Don't know if it's something on this end or what?? Some I see, some I don't. Couldn't see any of the breather timing work, for example, but did see the pistons, valves and seats, Super B (nice work on that carb, BTW).

The valve seat on the intake going to be a chore, here's what I found with it ...

Guides been replaced recently and are within specs on the stem to guide ...
But are way out in left field for being concentric to the valve seat ...

Image

I have attained oversize valves to get a seat onto the valve face ..
But won't be able to use em cause they can't seat on the aluminum ..
Will be trimming down the valve head in order to have a seat on the bronze ...

Image

Got a bit of valve to play with .... Soon to see if my plan holds water ... ??

Here's ^^ the O/S valve ... It has a size of +1/8" (1.875") over std valve size ... That size is not going to work cause the seat is running off into the aluminum in the head ...

Image

Photo above is the same valve cut down to +1/16" (1.812") ... This size gets it in the ballpark ...

Image

I got bronze 360* all the way around the seat ... :D

Image

That did the trick ...

Well....
Did the same work that the rear head seen...

Cut down the O/S intake valve and found a good seat on up on the bronze ..
Since the guide and seat was so wacky, I was wondering if there was enough seat to go with a O/S valve ...

Image

Exhaust is next and then it will be time to pack the springs ...

All done with seating in the valves ...

Now to set up the springs ....
His cam is bone stock ...
Going to figure installed height using the H cam valve lift ...
Solid coil bind occur at .900" add .060" and the .450" lift of the H cam gives me the number for installed height = 1.410"

Those eyes ....

Image

One of these will be used on the 61 ...

The other just might find a home on someone's scooter .. ??
