WL Front Fender Light Wiring

#1

Post by 1962300 »

I am going to be installing a front fender light on my 1949 45 soon.

I have this wiring kit:
https://www.45restoration.com/Produc...__9786-11.aspx
I know which terminal it is supposed to wire up to, per the wiring diagram I have.

Any helpful hints on its routing from fender up to ignition switch?
Thank you!

Your link doesn't work.
The wiring diagram is in the Documentation section, '49 45s use the '48 diagram since they did not switch to Hydra-Glide forks.
Use the insulated terminal on the lower horn mount, make sure the fender wire is in a steel sleeve, run the switch wire along with the horn/headlight loom to the fork.

Thanks.
I looked at the '48 documentation.
Trying to determine where the tube for the fender wire lives & clamps on to.
My '49 does not have the horn bracket / wiring bolted to the fender.
Just wonder....Do i need to drill a hole through the fender; under the springer?
A friend has the Palmer book; so maybe that will help.
Thanks

If you do not have a lower horn bracket and it was never installed then you likely have a variety of aftermarket parts. All springer model H-Ds had the bracket (all the way to '57 on Servi-Cars) and the steel tube is attached to one of the bracket mounting bolts, the other on a '49 is a wiring terminal.

Ah....Yes....
I bought my bike some 30 years ago. It was a frame, motor, wheels, springer & tanks (off a servicar, I imagine, as the shifter is on the right side).
So, yes, most of my bike is reproduction stuff.

Sounds like I will need to drill a hole in the top/center of the fender where the horn bracket should be so i can route the wire.
Thank you for your help!
