Frame numbers aftermarket?

#1

Post by Larry49EL »

Just purchased my 49EL and the engine and heads have the proper #'s. However, the frame is a 54-57 straightleg, with some numbers near the sidecar loop on the downtube: YE-761E Aftermarket frame??? Or ?

Help??!!!

Larry-
HD Big Twin Frames from 52+ newer have Date Codes on the right side of the top motor mount. Scrape off the paint there & you should see a code.
They read like: "5 F" 5 =1955 F=June
You understand?? The year is simple. Straightleg rigid
Has to be Late '54-'57
Month is simple also A=Jan. B= Feb. etc...

Early 54 was end of 'wishbone'

Thanks! Haven't had a chance to look yet but picked up a few recommended books and they also state to look by the top motor mount. I'll post when I find out.
