filter or catch-can for primary oil return line? 67FLH

Has anyone ran a filter on the primary oil return line (67 FLH) with any success? I think I remember seeing a post with a power steering filter part number. Or, how about a catch can? I have my primary oiler connected to my metered port on my pump, (yes, the pump is from a later model) so the amount of oil actually being returned is very minimal. I'm not interested in sealing the primary. Thanks

Hi,

keep in mind that filter for hydraulics are generally classified in 3 types: Suction or pressure or return
Power steering works with fairly high pressure ~1500psi .Those filter are, as far as I am concerned, in the return line saying they need pressure to work but usually restricted by an orifice. So not all of the oil will run thru the filter maybe 25% ? The total amount of oil will be filtered after a few minutes with the pump running.
To be honest I doubt that it will work fitting such a filter in a Shovel lubrication system. Sure the exit of the filter-element will become wet but whether the filter will actually work is another thing. I can imagine that such a filter proves too much of a resistance. What happens if that is the case ?
I can only speculate.

It surely is a secret?
I looked on eBay under "Power Steering Filter" and found a lot of them there....

Reading Ritchies`post I understand that one of his customers uses that filter as an engine oil filter. Maybe it`s my lousy english or I`m not getting it.
But hey: It works ? Great !!
